Week 8

Thoughts from Class

At this time in the class we’ve wrapped up reading all the books that were included in the syllabus. Now the time is to focus on engaging with what we’ve learned, both through this portfolio project and through a final essay. Posts from here will get shorter because I won’t have as many thoughts relating to class.

Response to Scripture

The scriptures for this week were: Isaiah 2:1-5; Psalm 122; Romans 13:11-14; Matthew 24:36-44

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem:
“May they prosper who love you.
Peace be within your walls
and security within your towers.”
For the sake of my relatives and friends
I will say, “Peace be within you.”
For the sake of the house of the Lord our God,
I will seek your good.
— Psalm 122:6-9

Resources

(1) A song or hymn connected (2) a media piece - art, film, music, cartoon, meme, blog post, etc. (3) an action someone could take - prayer, legislative action, meditation, petition to sign etc. Each resource is related or connected either the lectionary text or the focus area of expansive language.

Song/Hymn

Both the Isaiah and Psalm texts for this week talk about going to the house of the Lord.

Pop Culture Reference or Media Piece

While I’ve expanded my vision of what God looks like, when I think about “house of the Lord” my vision still firmly stands in imagining the mountains. While the mountains change - sometimes they’re more desert like, sometimes by a lake, sometimes very rocky - the strength and power of mountains remains the vision I have of where God dwells, even knowing that God’s dwelling place is in and with all of creation.
